Nature's bounty is immense. So many medicinal plants surround us, and yet, we don't value it. Take, for instance, moringa leaves which have been used for thousands of years to treat wounds and aid in regenerative healing.
But do city dwellers know about it? Worse, where will we even find it?
Surely, the matchbox style apartment buildings in Mumbai wouldn't have the luxury to plant moringa trees.
That's where easily packaged goods come in handy. Moringa tea is made from the leaves of the Moringa oleifera plant and is available at the click of a button.

Moringa tea brings home the bounty of moringa, or the "miracle tree."

Benefits of Moringa Herbal Tea

Moringa tea is made by steeping the powdered moringa leaves into hot water and letting it brew for a couple of minutes. Naturally caffeine-free, it has a number of benefits and can be consumed at any time of the day.

  1. Packs a Punch

The dried moringa leaves are an excellent source of calcium, iron, vitamin E and thiamine, which is a relaxing agent.

2. Great to Keep Diabetes in check

A study found that moringa consumption can lower glucose levels after meals, which is a big trigger point for diabetic patients in terms of monitoring their insulin levels.

3. Improves brain health

A study found that drinking moringa tea can, to an extent, help against memory impairment and neurodegeneration in the case of dementia.

With all these wonders available to us from the bounty of moringa, it's sad if we don't access it, right? But enough of sadness, let's set the mood for moringa tea by reading a great poem by A.K. Ramanujan(1929-1993), an Indian poet and scholar.

The poem is called ECOLOGY, and was written by Ramanujan in November 1981.

It's a beautiful piece of poetry about the conflict between a son's love for his mother, and the mother's love for ecology.

ECOLOGY by A.K Ramanujan

The day after the first rain,
for years, I would come home
in a rage,

for I could see from a mile away
our three Red Champak trees
had done it again,

had burst into flower and given Mother
her first blinding migraine
of the season....
